Work Challenges Series: Where Do You Work Best?

Today was one of those magical workdays—I felt energized, focused, and super creative. Everything just flowed. So I paused and asked myself, why today? And the answer was simple: I was working from one of my favourite spots.

Cafés, Libraries, and the Joy of Choice

Lately, I’ve been loving the freedom of working from cafés and libraries. Each has its own vibe. If I need deep focus, the library wins—quiet corners, minimal distractions, and headphones if needed. But when I crave a bit of buzz and casual interaction, a café is perfect. The background hum of life somehow helps me think better.

And I’m not talking about a dusty, silent library from decades past. I mean a modern, spacious, beautifully designed library—the kind that draws in kids, students, professionals, and retirees alike. It’s nestled next to cafés and a shopping mall, so if I need a coffee, a snack, or even a quick errand, everything’s within reach. It’s not just a place to work—it’s a place to feel inspired.

The Office: Structured but Distant

My official workplace is at least a 30-minute drive away, often more. It’s a very professional environment—dress codes, formal conversations, and a clear line between work and personal life. I only go in twice a week, which is enough. The rest of the time, I choose where I work based on what I need that day.

And let’s be honest—because we spend so much time at work (sometimes more than with our own families), the environment matters. It can either drain you or energize you. That’s why I’m so intentional about where I work.

Home Office: Productive but Isolating

Working from home has its perks. I can squeeze in chores, take a quick workout break, and wear whatever I want. But some days, I realize I haven’t spoken to a single person. It’s like being on a little island, drifting away from the rest of the world.

That changed after I had a kid—now, working from home can feel like the calm before the storm. Silence is golden when you know chaos is coming!

Why Cafés and Libraries Spark Creativity

There’s something refreshing about being around strangers. In cafés and libraries, people come from all walks of life. That diversity sparks ideas and helps me think outside the box.

At work, I’ve often needed to watch YouTube tutorials to fix bugs in Excel or Power BI. But in open offices, it can feel awkward—like people might think you’re slacking off. Even if no one’s actually watching your screen, the pressure is there. And if you don’t have much to do, pretending to be busy is exhausting.

In public spaces, I feel free. I can take a break, chat briefly with someone, or just enjoy the atmosphere. No need to explain myself.

Your Turn!

So, where do you work best? If you have an office job, do you prefer the structure of the workplace, the comfort of home, or the creative buzz of a café?

Let me know—I’d love to hear your favorite work spot. And if you don’t have an office job… well, this question might not make much sense. 😄
